Building Cabinet Doors Step by Step

Here are pictures of the different steps while I was making the cabinet doors for my cousin's DVD shelves. Click on the pictures to enlarge.

Home Depot Lumber




Lumber in the Home Depot before being cut into the doors for this project.










Ripping Pieces.




Rip, or run through the table saw with the grain, all the pieces to the correct width and then cut to the correct length, plus 2 inches.









Cut to profile.



Use the router to cut all the edges to profile. The profile is the end result of what you want all the pieces to be.









Cut stiles.




Cut stiles or up and down pieces to length.









Cut rails.




Cut rails or horziontal pieces to length.









Route rail edges.




Route rail edges.









Test fit the pieces.




Test fit the pieces.









Cut insert panels.




Cut the insert panels.









Assemble and Glue.




Assemble panels and glue rail ends into place.









Sand outside edges.




Sand the outside edges.









Sand top and bottom edges.




Sand top and bottom edges.









Route rounded edges.




Route the rounded edges.









Sand cabinet doors.




Sand.









Apply primer and sand.




Apply primer and sand again.









Spray Paint




Paint. I found I get better finishes if I spray paint.









Completed Cabinet Doors





Apply hinges and hang the completed door.
