Forest Fires Leave You Little or No Time to Prepare
When it comes to forest fires, these disasters allow very little time to prepare anything.
The real preparation happens when the home is built. Items like clay tile or concrete tile roofs and not asphalt shingle roofs are very good a resisting burning cinders from landing and starting a fire. The same goes for outside walls of concrete fiberboard versus cedar shakes or wood shingles, plus there is an additional benefit from using a product such as Hardibacker. It looks like wood planks and there is almost zero maintenance on this product. Vinyl siding is a low maintenance product. However, it does burn easily. Make sure any electrical work done in the home is in compliance with NEC and/or all local codes. A large percentage of house fires are started by poor or overloaded electrical wiring.
So, if you live in an area prone to fires, the time to plan ahead is when the home is built.
