Honeywell 17000 Review

The Honeywell 17000 is a wonderful small space air purifier that cleans your air with two separate filters. It’s easy to clean and maintain and a wonderful air purifier for your home.

PROS

The Honeywell 17000 greatly reduces the number of allergens, odors, and pathogens you breathe. TRUE-HEPA filter captures 99.97 percent of common household airborne pollutants. It has simple soft-touch electronic control panel with 3 speeds and indicator lights. Each speed level is higher than the next but each is comparatively quiet. The convenient handle and weight make the Honeywell 17000 ultra portable.

CONS

The Honeywell 17000 is a 120V item and cannot be used in regions with voltage system 220-240V. When ordering the unit be aware that Kaz/Honeywell no longer makes the TRUE-HEPA filter replacement for it and a similar filter may be hard to find. The noise level increases on higher speeds or when the filter needs replacement. It has been noted that it may smell of burning/melting plastic when new.

MY RECOMMENDATION

I recommend the Honeywell 17000 is recommended for families with asthmatics and allergy sufferers or who wants to remove odors or lessen mold spores. Perfect for pet lovers who are sensitive to pets’ hair and dander. Recommended for anyone who lives or works on or near busy roads, factories, power plants, or any other major source of pollutants.

What makes the Honeywell Long-Life Pure HEPA QuietCare Air Purifier a good air purifier?

The Honeywell 17000 air cleaner has three speeds all of which are quiet and very efficient. The Honeywell 17000 filters the air in a closed room as large as 168 square feet (12 by 14 feet). The Honeywell 17000 is perfect if you want to make sure that the air in your bedroom is fresh. It utilizes QuietCare sound reducing technology for quiet operation so that you can fall asleep easily with this air purifier in your bedroom.

The Honeywell 17000 uses two separate filters to remove smoke, pollen, dust, animal dander, dust mites, molds, bacteria, viruses, and odors, continuously circulating the room’s air six times per hour on average. It contains a TRUE-HEPA filter that is 99.97 percent effective at removing airborne particles from the air. That means you have less pollen, cat dander, household dust, tobacco, and mold spores circulating through your air. The pre-filter reduces odors and captures large particles helping to extend the life of the HEPA filter.

Honeywell’s IntelliCheck system allows you to monitor the life of each air filter replacement. Filter replacement is simple. The CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) rating is 130/130/130, which means it filters 130 cubic feet of air per minute containing dust, smoke and pollen respectively. It carries a five-year warranty against defects. The Honeywell 17000 needs very little power, only 80 watts when set on high which makes it very affordable to run. Good quality construction and good customer service.

How do you use it?

The Honeywell 17000 is easy to use with simple operating procedures with Soft-touch electronic controls with 3 speeds and indicator lights. The Honeywell 17000 has five basic components: the locking mechanism, the endcap, the HEPA filter, the activated carbon pre-filter, and the base assembly (with controls and motor). It is recommended to operate by turning the unit on high to circulate the air quickly then switching to a lower setting before bed for quieter operation.

This air cleaner is equipped with electronic controls and IntelliCheck™ Filter Monitors to serve as a reminder when to replace the pre-filter and HEPA filter. The air cleaner can be placed on the floor in almost any location. Care should be taken if the unit is placed on a light colored carpet or flooring to place a small mat or rug to prevent a possible dirt build up. The air outlet slot should not be blocked for at least 3 feet (1 meter) in all directions.

Because indoor air can quickly become contaminated by outside air or events within a space, it is recommended that the Honeywell 17000 air purifier be operated 24 hours a day. All the air in any given room is not completely processed by the air cleaner so the more air circulated through the filter, the more freshly filtered air will be introduced back into the room. The air purifier will work more efficiently in rooms where all doors and windows are closed.

What are the replacement parts for the Honeywell Long-Life Pure HEPA QuietCare Air Purifier?

The Honeywell 17000 has only two parts requiring service, the activated carbon pre-filter and the primary TRUE-HEPA filter. No tools are needed to replace the parts. The TRUE-HEPA filter lasts at least one whole year with heavy use, and up to three year with light use. The light bulb has to be replaced around the same time depending on your use. The pre-filter should be replaced every three months, for a low cost per month around $3. The pre-filter may need to be replaced more often if the unit is used in a smoking environment. Remember to reset the filter monitor on the Honeywell 17000 after replacing an old filter.

How easy is it to clean the Honeywell 17000?

Wipe exterior with a clean, dry cloth as needed. Make sure that you do not wash either the activated carbon pre-filter or the TRUE-HEPA filter. They are not washable and washing will damage the filters. Replace them as needed instead of washing.
