Old Household RemediesBelow are some old household remedies of yesteryear. Some I think are interesting with one strange. I have not tried any of these. They are just food for thought.
To Remove Tar Stains: Tar stains can be removed out of all kinds of material by rubbing lard into them, letting them stand for about an hour and then washing in the usual way. To Remove Grass Stains: Washable materials should be rubbed with a clean cloth that has been dipped in kerosene, then washed. For non-washable fabrics, use alcohol or carbon tetrachloride.
Brass and Copper Cleaner: 2 tbsp. salt, 2 tbsp. vinegar and 2 tbsp. flour. Mix and apply with soft cloth. Let stand a few minutes; wash in warm soapy water. Rinse and dry. To Improve Digestion: East a small crust of bread every morning, fasting about an hour before breakfast. To Remove Gum: Rub with an ice cube, then scrape or comb or brush out of material. Rub white of egg into gum stuck on rugs or upholstered materials and it can then be removed very easily. To Remove Ball Point Ink: Spray the area with hair spray. Let stand for a short time and then launder as usual. To Fumigate Foul Rooms: To one tbsp of salt and a little powdered manganese in a glass cup, add 4 or 5 different times a quarter of a wineglass of vitriolic acid. Place the cup on the floor and go out, taking care to shut the door. The vapor will come in contact with the malignant miasma and destroy it.
As I come across more old household remedies, I will add them here.
