Jump Drive, Flash Drive or Pen Drive
Which Should I Buy?
By Rick Altman
These are actually different names for the same thing.
The definition for "jump drive" from Wikipedia is: "A small, portable, flash memory card that plugs into a computer’s USB port and functions as a portable hard drive. USB flash drives are touted as being easy-to-use as they are small enough to be carried in a pocket and can plug into any computer with a USB drive” It continues, “USB flash drives have less storage capacity than an external hard drive, but they are smaller and more durable because they do not contain any internal moving parts.”
Jump, flash, or whatever other name you use for them, are simply a portable floppy drive, but with the size of a hard drive. They now come in sizes from 1 GB to 64 GB, which is an enormous amount of storage space. With a relatively inexpensive price and they are continuing to drop, you can purchase a 1 GB for less than $5.00, while a 64 GB will run you closer to $80.00.
Simply insert it in a USB port and another drive shows up under “My Computer”. You can either save to that letter or drag and drop whatever you need to its icon. It’s just like saving to a floppy or your hard drive.
They can also be called thumb drives, jump drives, pen drives, key drives, tokens or simply USB drives.

Make Somebody Happy
If you're over sad,
There's something you can do,
Just make somebody happy,
And you'll be happy too.
