My Tub Creaks

by Ed
(Alberta Canada)

When I'm standing in my shower the tub creaks as I move around it did't do this when we first installed the soaker tub but it is getting worse did we do something wrong?

ANSWER: Here are a couple possibilities. If it is a metal porcelain tub and there was a Styrofoam pad insert under the tub when you installed the tub, that could be creaking. The plastic compresses with age and causes the creaks. Look for some fractures in the porcelain near the sides. If you have fractures, the metal is fatiguing or breaking.

The next possibility that is a common problem is the area under the tub is open to cold air from below. This will also cause the creaking you describe.

If it is not a metal tub, send me some additional information.
