Outdoor Ceiling Fan Makeover

Original Fan
We have an outdoor ceiling fan on our back porch. We installed it about nine years ago. It was looking a little tired and one blade was drooping. So, it was time to do something and we did not want to spend the money to buy a new fan.

The fan was white with an accumulation of smoke on the blades from the nearby grill. To the right is a picture of the fan before it got so dirty.

Here are the steps I took to make it look new again:

  1. A good cleaning was the first order of business. This helped, but additional work was required.

  2. Fan with Light and Fan Blades Removed

  3. So I removed the light to get access to the fan’s blades.

  4. Then, I removed the fan blades. I found out the reason why one of the blades was drooping. It was cracked.

  5. I superglued the cracked blade and placed a clamp on it to keep it straight while drying.
  6. Then cleaned everything. Still the fan blades were not their original white color.

  7. Painted Fan Blades

  8. So, I painted the fan blades with Krylon brown paint. This paint is made for plastic and adheres well. It also matched the patio furniture.

  9. Reassembled Blade to Bracket

  10. Next I reassembled the blades to the brackets.

  11. Reimstalled Fan Blades

  12. I reinstalled the fan blades.

  13. Final Fan

  14. I reinstalled the light fixture.

That was all there was to it. Now we can enjoy our fan for another 10 years.
