pipes banging

by JON WEINSTEIN
(DORVAL QUEBEC)

I have a shower stall that makes the pipes bang from any tap being used only when the shut off valves are turned on to that stall. I have 16 inch 1/2" copper pipe shock obsorbers installed but still everything bangs but only when that shower stall is turned on.

Should I make the shock obsorbers longer and thicker will that stop the banging?

Thanks

What an interesting problem! The 16" piece was good idea years ago. The problem is they fill with air and contribute to the hammering problem.

The solution is replace them with a hammer arrester by Sioux Chief or any vendor that uses mechanical devices. The other problem is that the pipes in the wall of the shower are not strapped down and they are contributing to the hammer effect.
